Kriam opens play on Broadway

Elie Kriam, the only undergraduate student to graduate from the former DTVC program will have his play “16 Wounded” open on Broadway April 15, 2004. Judd Hirsch will play the lead. "16 Wounded" was written and performed at CalArts directed by Asitha Amersekere. Elie has received several awards for the play and was invited to the Playwright's workshop at Sundance. Additionally, Elie has now completed his first feature film of which he wrote and directed.

Ferranti signs distribution deal

Sharon Ferranti, Film Directing Program alumni '00, has finished her feature film and it will be premiering this month in Miami and has signed a contract for distribution with Wolfe Video. At this time, Sharon resides in Houston, Texas where she teaches a documentary class for HBO and working for Writers in the Schools.

Jung and Choi screen Outside

Ah-Young Jung and Seungwon Choi, alumni, have been invited to screen their film “Outside” at the Brooklyn International Film Festival June 4-13, 2004.

Vogt screens Simple Lessons in Common Things

Erika Vogt, Program and Film and Video alumni has screened her film Simple Lessons in Common Things at the Viennale Film Festival, Vienna October 2003, Montreal International Festival of New Cinema and New Media, Montreal November 2003, and Colgate University , Hamilton, New York November 2003.

Fenz wins Guggenheim, Awards

Robert Fenz, Program in Film and Video alumni has been awarded a 2004 Guggenheim Fellowship. Also, Festival Prizes for his film: "Meditations on Revolution, Part V: Foreign City"

Vahdani screens Pink Balloons

Kataneh Vahdani, BFA 3, Character Animation Program has been chosen to screen her film “Pink Balloons” at the Newport Beach Film Festival (4/15-25, 2004) and the Short Shorts film festival in Tokyo, Japan (6/1-6/10).

Villard's Son of Satan tours

Jean-Jacques Villard, BFA 4, Character Animation Program, has been chosen to screen his film Son of Satan at SAFO- Seoul, Korea, Annecy Film Festival, France June 2004, IFC Film Festival "In The Making", Colorado, and ZAGREB World Festival of Animated Films, Croatia Europe June 15-18, 2004 and Cannes Film Festival, May 2004.

Benning visits Madison

James Benning, Faculty, Program in Film and Video was invited to the Wisconsin Film Festival (April 1-4, 2004), Madison, Wisconsin to screen his films Four Corners, Los, Sogobi and El Valley Centro. Prior to the festival, James visited the University of Milwaukee as a visiting artist.

Wilkerson grabs Big Sky Award

Travis Wilkerson's provocative film about Butte, Montana, "An Injury to One (2002)," grabbed the Big Sky Award, given to a documentary by a Montana filmmaker. Wilkerson is currently finishing up a new film about Butte.
