Butera screens Coffeezilla at Crosstown

Nicholas Butera, BFA2, Character Animation has been selected to screen his animated film "Coffeezilla" at the USC Crosstown Film Festival November 20, 2004 at 5:20pm

Engel wins for 36 hour filmmaking

Markus Engel, alumnus '98, Film Directing Program announced he was part of a 36 hour film fest last weekend (where you have to complete a film in 36 hours). 11/06/04 was the screening of the 60 or so film and the awards. Award for "best ending" went to the famous underground film maker Markus Engel. Markus acknowledges a special "Thank you" to Lou Florimonte for a much needed boost in self confidence.

Das screens Goodnight

Rahul Das, MFA 3 student, Film Directing Program has been selected to screen his short film "Goodnight" at the 3rd Annual Crosstown Film Festival, which will feature student films from AFI, Art Centre, CalArts, Chapman, LMU, UCLA and USC. The festival will be held on Nov 20, 2004, at the Eileen Norris Cinema Theatre on USC's University Park Campus, beginning 3pm and ending around 7:30pm. The event is free and will include dinner.

Winter screens Restored Weekend and Escape

Kirsten Winter, Faculty, Experimental Animation has been invited to screen her 35mm film Restored Weekend, 2004, at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame IN, 11/19/04.

Additionally, her film Escape (2001) was screened in combination with an exhibition showing the artwork for her film during the last months in Teheran, Alexandria and Cairo and it will be screen (with exhibition) in Ramallah in Nov/December. The screening and exhibition has been organized by the German Institute of Foreign Affairs. (IFA)

Ott's Blood Brothers Video hits MTV2

A group of Cal Arts Film Video students recently completed a music video for V2 Records and Seattle, Washington, based band THE BLOOD BROTHERS. The video was directed by Mike Ott (MFA2, Program in Film and Video) and features cinematography by Jason Harris (MFA1, Program in Film and Video) and Jay Keitel (BFA4, Program in Film and Video). JR Hughto (MFA2, Program in Film and Video) was the assistant director and Dave Fenster (MFA Graduate) was the editor. The video is set to air on MTV2 throughout November and December.

Hillenburg's SpongeBob Premieres

Stephen Hillenburg, alumnus, Experimental Animation, MFA '92 will premiere "The SpongeBob SquarePants, Movie" in theaters Friday, November 19, 2004. Stephen, the creator of SpongeBob, wrote and co-directed the movie. (PG, 90mins.)

Bird's Incredibles Premieres

Brad Bird, alumnus, Character Animation Program will premiere his animated, family adventure "The Incredibles" in theaters Friday, November 5, 2004. Brad wrote and directed the animated feature film. (PG, 115mins.)

Fenz screens worldwide

Robert Fenz, Program in Film and Video alumnus is currently living in NYC and teaching film at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
