"This beautiful and emotionally resonant film tells the story of individuals struggling
to shape their lives in a Western landscape ravaged by petroleum extraction.
What is most extraordinary about Last Hat in Town
is the depth and intimacy of the filmmaker's relationship with his subjects.
Viewers get to know and care about each of the film's characters, and, in the process,
come to a complex understanding of the social, environmental,
and economic impacts of the shift from ranching to drilling."

Brocka's new feature opens in LA, NYC, SF

Allan Brocka, alumni, MFA, Program in Film and Video BOY CULTURE opened theaters Friday, March 23 in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco, the theatrical opening of BOY CULTURE! Directed by Allan Brocka, and co-wrote the script with Philip Pierce. It took nearly
a decade to make.

The movie is based on a brilliant, critically-acclaimed novel by Matthew Rettenmund and is produced by Stephen Israel, Victor Simpkins and Philip Pierce. It has won 18 national and international awards. Allan has been as far as Africa, Brazil, Montreal, and London, promoting it, and now in the US.

As many of you know, the first weekend box office determines if a film will sink or swim. Independent films are left to fend for themselves each week. The opening weekend numbers will determine how wide our film plays and how long it lives in theaters.

BOY CULTURE does not have a marketing budget to buy expensive TV commercials or billboards. We have only the power of community and grassroots outreach. With its awards and positive reviews, Boy Culture is getting a lot of attention right now, so its box office performance
will be watched carefully by others who are considering investing in gay-themed films.

If BOY CULTURE is not coming to your city, please call your local art house theater and ask them for it! We're trying to book it in every town possible, it's the theaters who don't think there's an audience for gay indie film. Just a single phone call from a local audience member can
change someone's mind. It happens all the time!

To find more information about the BOY CULTURE, to view the trailer and to read interviews with the actors, please go to:
www.boyculturemovie.com or
www.myspace.com/boyculture.

So far, the early reviews have been 100% positive!

Yoon wins Adobe Design Achievement Award

The Adobe Design Achievement Awards celebrate student achievement that reflects the powerful convergence of technology and creative arts. Students from schools in 24 countries throughout the world submitted nearly 1,500 entries to this years competition. Winners were chosen in nine categories, representing work by some of the most talented and promising student graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, animators, digital filmmakers, and computer artists from the worlds top institutions of higher education.

This years' finalist included: *SunHa Yoon*, student, Character Animation program for her film Kozard from Jelacoe: (below is an excerpt from the Adobe Design website)

Biography: Sunha Yoon is a character animator at California Institute of the Arts. Her interest in art and science began at home. Sunha used to draw and paint with her mom and discuss science projects with her dad. She went to school in Korea for further study in biology, and two years ago, she decided to study animation at CalArts. She finally got into film, which is new for her, and she's been exploring an interest in animation, motion graphics, and visual development.

Objective: It's 2D animation drawn by hand. But I added some texture and effects with Adobe Photoshop and After Effects, so it has a different and unique feeling.

Tools used: I used Photoshop for background and After Effects for drawings, camera moves, and other effects. And I used Adobe Premiere for exporting as
a movie file.

passionate documentary filmmaking. A testimony to the importance of access

corporate power and international politics as they bear down on the lives
